Five Christmas wishes to speed up the green transition
As another strange year is nearing its end, we would all like to wish those of you celebrating, the very best for Christmas and the new year. 2021 was not without its high points for the green transition, not least on a global scale through the shared understanding and some steps towards solutions as demonstrated in climate COP26, biodiversity COP15 (part 1) and the Earthshot Prize.
Though as we have said before, whilst climate ambition moves hearts and minds, only delivery will move industries and economies. Therefore our sincere hope is that 2022 is all about impact. A bit more specifically in our main areas of work and with a UK focus, our Christmas wishes for next year are:
For an influx of innovative projects to test and validate how green finance models can be scaled up and replicated to unlock private investment in nature positive solutions, bridging the ~£56 billion finance gap, and decarbonising the built environment.
In pursuit of net zero, for 100,000 EV charging points to be installed and a significant increase in Environmental Product Declarations to help the built environment sector to reduce carbon.
For all local authorities to establish and gain experience with applying biodiversity no net loss/net gain regimes via planning applications.
For public and private sector organisations to recognise and harness the circular economy as relevant to their net zero plans.
To help to improve climate resilience, advancement in the reporting of the physical risks from climate change to assets and an increase in the percentage of vulnerable assets/business activities reported by companies.
From all of the team at Accelar & the Nature Finance Impact Hub. We look forward to collaborating with you in 2022.
